2. Helvetia&Bristol Firenze

If you want a more centrally-located 5-star Florence hotel, take a look at Helvetia&Bristol Firenze.

Housed in a 19th Century palazzo, this hotel is a mere five minutes walk from the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio, the most famous of Florence’s bridges. Santa Maria Novella Train Station is ten minutes on foot.

There’s a gym, indoor swimming pool and a spa, which is located in the footprint of the Capitoline Baths of the Roman city of Florentia (the hotel has retained fragments of its walls). The hotel’s rooftop terrace overlooks the dome of the Duomo.

Some of its elegant and spacious rooms and suites offer a view of Palazzo Strozzi, and smaller rooms are available for solo travellers. There are also family rooms and connecting rooms.

3. iQ Hotel Firenze

I will be seriously looking at this new hotel for my next visit to Florence. I have stayed in the iQ hotel in Rome and was very impressed by the brand.

Attracting glowing reviews, iQ Hotel Firenze is a ten-minute walk from the Duomo. The price point is excellent for a four-star hotel in Florence.

Its rooms are slick and modern and luxury toiletries are provided. Budget-friendly small double rooms are available as well as family rooms, and some rooms have terraces.

At the end of your sightseeing day in Florence, you can relax in the hotel’s courtyard pool, jacuzzi or sauna.

Best Hotels in Florence with a Rooftop Pool

4. The Social Hub Florence Lavagnini

Think that it’s not possible to book a budget hotel with a rooftop pool in Florence? Think again.

Set in a 19th-century palazzo, The Social Hub (TSH) Florence Lavagnini is located north of the Accademia Gallery, a 15-minute walk from Piazza del Duomo.

With its co-working spaces and games areas, there’s a communal student vibe about this Florence hotel. It’s like a hostel for grown-ups, minus the dorm rooms.

Accommodation ranges from a cosy single room to a spacious suite with a Nespresso machine.

The views of Florence’s skyline from the hotel’s rooftop pool and bar are staggering (and I love “The Beach is Boring” written on the pool floor). There’s also a gym, bike rental and handy laundry in the basement.

You can easily explore Florence by bike (e-bike), which you can find right outside the main entrance. The reception was warm, friendly and informative. The rooftop bar is fantastic (not only the drinks, but also the view!).

5. Grand Hotel Minerva

Located close to the River Arno and within spitting distance of Santa Maria Novella train station, the 360-degree views from the rooftop swimming pool of this 4-star hotel are to die for.

Housed in a 13th Century palazzo, Grand Hotel Minerva’s rooms are simply decorated but elegant, and include suites and family rooms. Some of the suites feature original frescoes and have balconies overlooking the Cathedral of Santa Maria Novella.

The pool and its bar are reserved exclusively for guests until 7.30 at night when it opens to non-residents. In the colder months, you can enjoy the indoor hot plunge pool (fee applies).

Best Boutique Hotels in Florence with a Pool

6. Rivoli Boutique Hotel

Rivoli Boutique Hotel ticks so many boxes for me.

This centrally-located 4-star hotel is an oasis of tranquillity in Florence. Santa Maria Novella railway station is 300 meters away and you can walk to Florence Cathedral in ten minutes.

No two rooms are the same and they all face a 14th Century Franciscan cloister. They range from a single room to a spacious Premium Double Room; some have balconies.

In addition to its small courtyard pool, Rivoli Boutique Hotel also has a spa. There’s a restaurant on-site and valet parking is available.

The daily happy hour is the icing on the cake.

Best Hotels in Florence with an Indoor Pool

7. Palazzo Castri 1874

Pool-wise, you get two for the price of one at Palazzo Castri 1874; within its wellness centre, there is an indoor pool connected to an outdoor pool. If you are looking for greater independence, Palazzo Castri is also home to one of the best luxury apartments in Florence.

Housed within the shell of a historic palazzo, the location of this 4-star hotel could hardly be better. It’s located on the doorstep of Michelangelo’s David at the Accademia Gallery, equidistant from Santa Maria train station and the Duomo.

Expect modern, clean lines and designer toiletries in its elegant rooms, some of which have spa access and to-die-for views of the Duomo. My one criticism is that the cheaper rooms are on the small side.

Valet parking is available.

8. Casual Rinascimento Firenze

The location of this wallet-friendly 3-star hotel could not be better: on the doorstep of Piazza del Duomo and the Uffizi Galleries.

Its rooms and suites have air-conditioning – essential in the sultry Florentine summers – and some have kitchenettes and hot tubs. Unusually for Florence, breakfast is included in all room rates.

As well as an indoor pool, Casual Rinascimento Firenze also offers a sauna and fitness centre.

Best Hotels with Swimming Pools Outside Florence

9. Villa San Michele, Fiesole

elegant palazzo in a lovely garden which is one of the best hotels in florence with a pool
Image @Belmond Hotels

Beautiful Fiesole in the Florence Hills is the perfect retreat from the city’s busy streets. This is a great location if you hire a car –  the narrow streets of the historic centre of Florence weren’t designed for cars – but frequent buses also run between Fiesole and the city centre.

The first time I visited Florence, I stayed at the YHA Hostel of Florence Villa Camerata near Fiesole. If I were to pick Fiesole again, my sights would be set on Villa San Michele.

Set in a former 15th Century monastery, whose façade has been attributed to Michelangelo, Villa San Michele is set in lush gardens with views over Florence from its outdoor pool. There is a range of rooms and suites, the more expensive of which have private terraces.

Parking is free and, if you don’t have a car, the hotel provides a complimentary shuttle to Florence city centre. The journey time is 30 minutes.

There are two restaurants on-site and a small selection of local eateries within a 15-minute walk.

This hotel may be for you if …

  • You want to stay in a luxurious countryside retreat with easy access to Florence
  • You are hiring a car and are not keen on driving around Florence and want free parking
  • You want to relax by an outdoor swimming pool with views over Florence

This hotel may not be for you if

  • You are travelling on a budget
  • You want to stay in Florence itself

What other travellers have said

Exceptional! Superb! Sublime! An oasis of peace and tranquillity.

10. Ville Sull’Arno

Alternatively, relax in this 5-star hotel on the banks of the River Arno.

More affordable than Villa San Michele, Ville Sull’Arno is a boutique hotel located two miles from Florence’s city centre. For the quality of accommodation and service, the price point is excellent.

Its rooms really have that wow factor. The more expensive Executive Rooms have Arno views + / – a spa bath.

There is both an outdoor swimming pool and a heated indoor pool in the hotel’s wellness centre, which also features a sauna and Turkish bath.

A free shuttle bus runs between the hotel and city centre and the hotel also offers free bike rental. What could be cooler than cycling along the banks of the Arno to Ponte Vecchio?

Ville Sull’Arno has its own restaurant and there are a number of local places to eat within easy walking distance.

This hotel may be for you if …

  • You want to hit that sweet spot between a relaxing place to stay and easy access to Florence
  • You want to throw open your curtains in the morning to a River Arno view
  • You are looking for a relatively affordable luxury hotel option in Florence with a pool
  • You are hiring a car and are not keen on negotiating Florence’s medieval streets

This hotel may not be for you if …

  • You are travelling on a budget
  • You want to stay in Florence’s historic centre

What other travellers have said

Lovely setting, friendly and helpful staff. Rooms clean with some nice touches – jacuzzi bath, toiletries, well stocked mini bar. Decoration throughout the hotel was classy. Food at the restaurant was excellent.
